Project 6 Historic Tudor Gothic Home

For the McBirney Mansion Philharmonic Designer Showcase Edie Irons Studio directed the restoration of the dining room walls and ceiling with its deteriorated lath/plaster construction. Repairs involved chipping off plaster and stripping original fabric prior to applying a new wall texture with a slightly imperfect finish technique developed by Edie. The entire square footage of this room was dressed by hand with special finishes, including wall glazing, molding antiquing, doors and glass front china cabinets. The ceiling’s architectural decorative painting technique has a shell motif along with each unique element within its design of stylized leaves and flowers. The lintels over doors and windows were also given historical designs. This work was later acknowledged by Southern Living Magazine as “masterly brushwork” in an article on the McBirney Mansion.
